The Knickerbocker Storm of 1922 | Episode 5
from Doomsday: History's Most Dangerous Podcast · host Brad Choma
Grab your clan robes and your snow shovels, today we’re heading to the Nation’s capital. We’re going to see a movie so funny it actually brought the house down. No really, people died.On this episode: we cover our most claustrophobic episode to date, combined with the most dramatic weight-loss strategy you've ever heard of This was our very first weather-related disaster. Not a natural disaster per se, but a combination of nature's fury combined with poor architectural choices in the past and poor overall decision making in the present. Without any of those three, this would not have happened – and I was reminded of this story very clearly not long ago during a screening of Captain America: Brave New World at a theatre in Wenatchee, Washington. Obviously it's the wrong Washington, but it still perked my ears because it was a winter showing and the roof collapsed onto the seating area. Thankfully, no one died. Not like the 98 in this episode, which on the one hand sounded gratuitous, but after the 30,000 who perished during our St. Pierre Volcanic Bio-Swarm of 1902 episode, nothig seems gratuitous.––––– THANK YOU. Most shows survive at the whim of production companies and corporate sponsors, built from the top down. Doomsday doesn’t exist because some network exec believes in it – it exists because actual people do. It's built from the bottom up, and it’s been my privilege to bring you these stories. Just you, me, and a microphone. I don’t do this for you, so much as I do this because of you.
