The Know Show – attention goes, energy flows

from Uncommon Courage · host Andrea T EdwardsAndrea T Edwards, Joe Augustin, Tim Wade, Arewa Olanrewaju

Send us Fan MailThe news is frantic, bewildering, and for many people, overwhelming. How many have switched off because it’s just too much? How many more are feeling growing despair? And how many have already lost hope in the future? No matter who you are or where you live, we are facing a very challenging time for humanity, because we are in a polycrisis – which means multiple challenges are affecting the world simultaneously. The World Economic Forum published the Global Risks Report 2023, and stated the risk of the polycrisis is growing - “where disparate crises interact such that the overall impact far exceeds the sum of each part”. These risks include the interplay between the pandemic, war, the energy crisis, cost-of-living crisis, and all the different aspects of the climate crises, to name a few. So how do we manage it? How do we navigate it? There’s an idea that where the attention goes the energy flows. This means that what we pay attention to becomes our bigger reality, so when our attention is focused on the ugliness in the world - the political divisions, othering, racism, war, and so on – then this becomes bigger. Can we instead, start to refocus our attention, away from the divisiveness and towards community action and inspiration? Is that even possible? We’ll be discussing this great topic to see if we can work it out. Join us.  We are delighted to welcome Arewa Olanrewaju, who is a creative expert, based in Nigeria, and Arewa is going to help us look at the political situation in Nigeria and the wider region, as well as discuss climate impacts and actions he is seeing.  We are thrilled Arewa said yes to joining in our conversation and for providing a unique insight into the African region. The Know Show is a Livestream held every fortnight on Friday, where Andrea T Edwards, Tim Wade and Joe Augustin, and at least one special guest, review the news that’s getting everyone’s attention, as well as perhaps what requires our attention. We’ll talk about what it means to us, the world and we hope to inspire great conversations on the news that matters in the world today.  The Know Show is based on Andrea T Edwards Weekend Reads, which are published every Saturday on andreatedwards.com, and covers the climate crisis, topical moments in the world, global politics, business, social issues, and passion/humor/history.
