The Krill: Everything We Know

In this episode of Talking The Orville, we dive deep into one of the most intense and complex species in the entire Orville universe — the Krill. Using in-universe material from The Guide to The Orville, we break down their culture, religion, military structure, and the driving philosophy that shapes their every action. We explore the Anhkana, the sacred Krill religious text that governs their society from top to bottom, and how its authoritarian teachings fuel centuries of conflict with the Union. From their warships and indoctrination practices to their belief that all non-Krill are unworthy of salvation, the Krill represent one of the richest and most morally challenging adversaries in modern sci-fi. We also talk about the surprising nuance behind the species — including why the Krill aren’t just villains, but products of a system built on fear, devotion, and generational indoctrination. And as The Orville’s universe continues to expand, the Krill’s role in future Union relations could reshape the entire galaxy. A fascinating, layered look at the enemies who aren’t always the enemy — and why understanding the Krill helps us appreciate the heart and hope of The Orville even more.
