The Landowner's Permission

Every ethical hunter knows the sacred weight of permission. Knocking on the farmhouse door, shaking the landowner's hand, hearing 'you're welcome on my place' — and then treating that land better than your own. Gates closed. Trash packed out. Respect shown, because you are a guest on ground that belongs to another.Psalm 24 makes a staggering claim: the whole earth is the Lord's. Every acre you hunt, every river you fish, every breath you draw — all of it His property, held by you on permission. We are not owners here. We are guests with remarkable privileges.That truth changes how a man walks through the world. Gratitude replaces entitlement. Stewardship replaces exploitation. The sportsman who treats creation as the Owner's property — handled with care, enjoyed with thanks, passed on improved — honors the Landowner. One day we each give an account for how we treated His place.Prayer:Lord, the earth is Yours and everything in it — including everything I call mine. Forgive me for the times I've lived like an owner instead of a grateful guest.Make me a faithful steward of Your property: the land, the water, the game, my family, my body, my time. I want to hand it all back better than I found it. Amen.Challenge:Do one tangible act of stewardship this week on land you hunt, fish, or live on: pack out trash that isn't yours, repair something, plant something, or improve habitat. Do it as a guest honoring the Owner.
