The Last Chronicle of Barset Chapter XLVII - Dr Tempest at the Palace

In which the good Dr. Tempest is reluctantly drawn into a delicate ecclesiastical inquiry concerning the suspected misconduct of a fellow clergyman, while contending with the imposing and indomitable Mrs. Proudie at the bishop's palace. Amidst strained dinners and uneasy conversations, the bishop himself finds his authority sorely tested by domestic discord and the complexities of duty to both Church and conscience.
