The Roman Coliseum is still home to 86,000 spectators all demanding entertainment, and all very conditioned to spectacles of death and bloodshed. All that is about to come to an end. Charlotte Mary Yonge (1823-1901) was a prolific English writer known for the quality of her output. She started to publish in 1848 and managed to produce 160 different works, mostly novels. Much of her work was in children's literature.
