Forty years on the throne, from shepherd boy to fugitive to king of all Israel, and now the time had come to go the way of all the earth. He summoned Solomon to his bedside. "Be strong and show yourself a man. Keep the mandate of the Lord your God, walking in his ways." These were not casual words. They distilled a lifetime of victories and catastrophic failures. David had learned the hard way that strength without obedience leads to ruin. So his last words were about a way to walk, not tactics or territory.Jesus called the twelve and sent them out two by two. He gave them authority over unclean spirits but almost nothing else. No bread, no bag, no money. Just a staff and sandals. This was enforced dependence. They would have to trust that God would provide through the people they served. They preached repentance, drove out demons, healed the sick. The mission worked because they had authority from Jesus and nothing else to rely on.Today the Church honors Saint Agatha, martyred in Sicily around 251 at barely twenty years old. She received the faith and passed it on by refusing to let go of it, even when letting go would have saved her life.📖 ReadingsFirst Reading: 1 Kings 2:1-4, 10-12Responsorial: 1 Chronicles 29:10, 11ab, 11d-12a, 12bcdGospel: Mark 6:7-13⏱️ Timeline00:00 Introduction00:15 Reading I - 1 Kings 2:1-4,10-1201:18 Psalm Response - 1 Chronicles 2905:47 Gospel - Mark 6:7-1306:34 Reflection - The Last Words and the First Steps🎧 Prefer to listen on the go?
