(The updated rankings for all states—plus D.C.—are available at https://www.hospitalsafetygrade.org/your-hospitals-safety-grade/state-rankings.) -- GENERAL/NATIONAL WRAP (:50) -- Some hospitals are better at protecting their patients than others. That’s why the nonprofit watchdog, “The Leapfrog Group”, issues its “Hospital-Safety Grade”, twice a year; the report features a letter-grade of “A”, “B”, “C”, “D”, or “F” that’s assigned, by experts, to the nation’s general-hospitals. Leah Binder [like “bind”, not “bin”] is “Leapfrog’s” president and C-E-O… “The pandemic put an enormous strain on our healthcare-system. Hospital-safety is more important than ever—and some hospitals are safer than others. Over 500 people die of preventable infections, patient-injuries, or medical errors, every day, in the United States. We created the ‘Hospital-Safety Grade’ so people can find the safest hospital in their local area.” To compare local hospitals, for free—and to get tips on staying safe—visit “hospital-safety-grade”-dot-org. -- ADDITIONAL SOUNDBITES FOR FIVE HIGHLIGHTED STATES -- Florida: “In our latest round of ‘Leapfrog’ hospital-safety grades, Florida ranks 17th in the nation; we gave 35-percent of Florida-hospitals an ‘A’.
