The Lemon Project

His name was Lemon. He was a slave - and he was owned by the College of William and Mary. His relationship with the College was complex..we know he sold produce to the college and even though he was a slave, in 1808 he received a Christmas bonus from the institution. The role of the College of William and Mary during slavery, and its attitude about race relations from the Civil War until today is the mission of The Lemon Project: A Journey of Reconciliation.
