The Life That Belongs To You
from Inside The Consulting Room - Understanding the Child Behind the Behaviour · host Kim Lee
Send us Fan MailMost people don’t wake up one day and choose a life that feels wrong. It happens gradually: small compromises, old family rules, relationship patterns you learned early, and a quiet habit of putting someone else’s needs in the driver’s seat. We talk candidly about that moment of realization, and why we decided to stop the planned finale of the Three Rs series and write the book instead: The Life That Belongs to You.We walk through the Three Rs framework, Recognition, Reckoning, and Recovery, as a practical model for healing and self-discovery. Recognition helps you name harmful relationship dynamics without minimizing or rationalizing them. Reckoning is the honest accounting of what those experiences cost you, especially when the roots go back to childhood and become embedded as unconscious patterns. Recovery is where you rebuild, not by waiting for someone else’s apology, but by reclaiming agency, strengthening boundaries, and choosing what’s right for you.One of the most important points we make is also the hardest: it’s understandable to want the person who caused harm to admit it, but it’s often a futile hope. Instead, we focus on staying emotionally clean, letting truth guide your next steps, and creating a life that isn’t orchestrated by someone else’s control. We also share where to find the book now (Kindle on Amazon and via our website), what’s coming next with the paperback release, and a forthcoming Three Rs course for women and mothers. If this conversation resonates, subscribe, share the episode with someone who needs it, and leave a review so more listeners can find the recovery tools they’ve been missing.
