The Light that Remains

The sixth and final sermon in the series Unmeasured: Reclaiming Servitude in a Self-Centered World.Having surrendered every false claim the nafs once made for itself, the servant now faces its final and most subtle temptation: the desire to appropriate the very light that came to humble it. In this sermon, we contemplate Allah's Name al-Nūr (the Light) and the profound parable of the lamp in Sūrat al-Nūr, discovering that the believing heart was never created to produce the light, but to receive it faithfully. As the heart is purified of every lingering claim to itself, it becomes less like a mirror reflecting attention back upon the self and more like the clear glass through which the light of faith quietly shines.
