The Lightning Thief: Percy Jackson Doesn’t Hate Us

This week, we covered the first Percy Jackson & The Olympians book, The Lightning Thief, written by Rick Riordan! We start the episode talking about the Meghan and Harry interview with Oprah and Gaia gives us more Pirates of the Caribbean content! Neeta and Gaia use this episode as an excuse to talk about how much they love each other and how refreshing it is to revisit a favorite childhood series that doesn’t alienate queer people and people of color! Gaia talks about having had a profound desire to be Percy Jackson and how this series may have kickstarted their gender crisis. Should we start a tik tok campaign so Gaia can play Clarisse in the upcoming Percy Jackson tv show? Let us know! Neeta discusses the history of white supremacists latching onto greek aesthetics and how some possible latent white supremacy may exist in the books. We talk about understanding your own life through the media you grew up with, why it’s so important to go back and look at the media that shaped you, and so much more, this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’. Be sure to leave us a review and email us at [email protected] if you have a topic you want us to cover (or just to say hi)! We’ll read them on the pod!
