THE LIVEABLE PAST

We have come to really enjoy Timeless, the NBC time-travelling series that takes a trio including an Anglo male (Wyatt), an Anglo female (Lucy)and an African American male (Rufus) on a romp through-out the U.S's history chasing a bad guy and trying hard not to change too much history in their wake. As we watched the show unfold over the weeks it occurred to us that Rufus in many instances finds himself constrained to the background as servant, janitor, a presumed slave or "out of sight - out of mind. We began to wonder... How much truly "Liveable Past" has there been for African Americans and other people of color in the U.S. and how we are recorded in history versus our historical actuality.
