The Local Election Most Detroiters Are Not Paying Attention To - Ep. 183 w/ Jenell Mansfield

What Up Doe?! This week on Black Fridays, we got family in the building with Jenell Mansfield, a Detroit daughter, lobbyist, educator, organizer, mother, and candidate for Wayne County Commissioner District 5. This conversation breaks down what county government actually does, why local elections directly impact property taxes, transit, healthcare, seniors, youth, and neighborhood resources, and how Jenell’s personal experience fighting through broken systems for her mother pushed her to step into the arena. From growing up on the west side to becoming a classroom teacher, parent advocate, legislative coordinator, and community-first candidate, Jenell gives a real look at what it means to lead with purpose, policy, and love for the people. The biggest takeaway: you cannot afford to sit out of local politics when the decisions being made are already affecting your home, your family, and your future.
