November 2022. Luna's friend Callie inherits a Victorian locket from her grandmother's estate in Morgan's Hollow, a speck of a town off the Natchez Trace. Inside the locket: a lock of hair that isn't her grandmother's. Callie starts wearing it out of sentiment, then out of compulsion. The hair changes — grows a shade darker each week, curls tighter against the glass.
