The Lord is My Shepherd | Come Follow Me Morning Meditation | Psalms 8; 19; 23-24

Begin today knowing the God who set the stars in place is mindful of you. A Come Follow Me morning meditation for August 17–23, "The Lord Is My Shepherd" (Psalms 1–2; 8; 19–33; 40; 46). This week the Psalms turn our eyes upward. The psalmist sits on a hillside long before sunrise, looks at the moon and the stars God set in place, and asks the oldest question of the human heart — what is man, that God would be mindful of him. He answers it not with smallness but with a crown. Then the sun rises like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, rejoicing as a strong man to run a race, and the heavens declare the glory of God without saying a word. The same God who speaks in sunlight speaks in commandments — the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul, rejoicing the heart. And at the end, a crowd climbs the hill of the Lord in Jerusalem singing, who shall stand in His holy place, and learns that clean hands and a pure heart are a blessing received from the Lord, not something we manufacture on the way up. If you have ever started a morning feeling small, or unworthy of the day in front of you, this reflection is for you. Play it as you wake, before the demands of the day rise, and let the light meet you where trust begins.
