The Lord's Table - General Preaching
from Emmanuel Baptist Church of Jacksonville - Sermons · host Chad Hayes
On the very night before His ultimate sacrifice, surrounded by the shadow of the cross, Jesus’ thoughts were not on Himself. Instead, they were consumed by love for those He came to save. In that upper room, He instituted what we now know as The Lord’s Supper—a sacred invitation to remember the greatest act of love ever demonstrated. In this sermon, we will gather around The Lord’s Table to explore the profound depth of the bread and the cup: The Gift of His Body: Jesus was not forced to the cross; He laid His life down willingly (John 10:17-18). Though entirely sinless, every sin—past, present, and future—was laid upon Him so that we might live unto righteousness (1 Peter 2:24). The Power of the Cup: The cup points directly to the blood of Jesus Christ. It is a blood that was promised through Old Testament sacrifices (Hebrews 10:4), a blood that is precious beyond measure (1 Peter 1:18-19), and a blood so powerful that it provides complete and eternal redemption (Hebrews 9:12). A New and Personal Covenant: Where the law fell short, Christ accomplished total victory on Calvary (Hebrews 10:17). The cross is not just a historical event; it is intensely personal. His body was broken and His blood was shed for you (Galatians 2:20). Join us as we celebrate the ultimate victory of Jesus Christ and partake in His table with hearts full of gratitude. The law couldn't save us, but Christ did. The cross is personal, Jesus is victorious, and there is a place for you at His table.
