What this episode covers
1 Peter 4:1-6. Galations 2:20-21. I have been crucified iwth Christ. I am dead to something and alive to something else. What is more pleasing to God is to put to death the flesh to live in the spirit. It is a continuous process. Your goal is to be more like Christ. You will fail, repent, learn, and hopefully rebound. Physical suffering is not a reason to take a life, but is when God does some of His greatest work in and through you. Jesus' death meant the Son and the Father were separated for the first time in eternity. Followers of Jesus should have their bodies under subjection/control rather than in comfort. In history when people are not worried about food, clothes, war, etc., they indulge their flesh (eg. Roman). Indulging your body will not bring happiness, contentment, or fulfillment. The purpose of our flesh is to control it to serve God. We should be willing to give ourselves over entirely to the Lord in our flesh. The more service oriented I am, the more like Christ I am. We spend an enormous amount of time in the milieu of the world. We need to arm ourselves with a mindset on Christ. There is a true warefare going on that often we are not even aware of. We need to practice arming our mindset to become proficient at it. Sanctification is the evidence of your salvation. It shows you're real, genuine, and strong, If you lose that, you lose your peace, your confidence, your prayer life, and your salvation. You're living you're life to feed your flesh. Put it to death! You need a mind that recognizes that riches/luxury is the source of your misery. How much more do you need? More? No matter what the body does it ends up dead! Have you lived that way long enough yet for your own interests and can you now live for the Lord? We are predominantly losing the battle. Compromise is sin. Make your environment have less competition for your attention.
