The Lost Boys of Pickering: 6 Teens Vanished Into Lake Ontario Without a Trace

from 10 Minute Mystery | Bingeable Mysteries · host Joe

The Lost Boys of Pickering: Six Teens Vanished Into Lake Ontario Without a TraceOn March 17, 1995, six teenage boys disappeared from Pickering, Ontario after stealing boats from Frenchman's Bay Marina and heading onto Lake Ontario. Jay Boyle, Chad Smith, Robbie Rumboldt, Jamie Lefebvre, Michael Cummins, and Danny Higgins were never seen again. The investigation by Durham Regional Police involved thousands of volunteers, Coast Guard searches, military aircraft, and underwater technology, but recovered only a single gas can. No bodies, no wreckage, no clothing has ever been found in 31 years. The case gets stranger when you start looking at what's actually there. Three boys appear on security footage at the marina at 1:48 AM, but where were the other three? Two boats were stolen that night, including an imitation Boston Whaler that might not have been truly unsinkable like the real thing. The marina sits right next to the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station with its massive water intake systems. Private investigator Bruce Ricketts spent 13 years working this case pro bono before his death in January 2024, and he found surveillance footage showing three mysterious people entering the marina minutes after the boys, including a man who turned and pointed at something. The police response was delayed by 36 hours, potentially missing the critical window for recovery. Human remains in red Levi jeans were found in the Niagara River in 1998, matching what Jay Boyle wore that night, but DNA testing took over five years and came back negative. Lake Ontario is 800 feet deep in places, with water temperatures that night sitting at a lethal 2 degrees Celsius. The case remains open with Durham Regional Police.#LostBoysOfPickering #LakeOntario #PickeringOntario #UnsolvedMystery #ColdCase #MissingPersons #CanadianMysteryThanks for listening to 10 Minute Mystery.
