It appears that gun violence has spiraled out of control in a manner that we can't seem to harness. We often believe that offering youth an outlet in the form of afterschool programs a viable solution to all the negative circumstances they encounter daily. But what happens when the harbingers of good faith face the circumstances they are trying to prevent the youth in the community from. This is "How A Triple-Shooting Sparked the Love-Not-Hate Movement In East Orange" came to be. Deborah and Dy-Shawn Simpkins were committed to providing kids with alternative to street violence. The New Jersey couple's after-school programs and day care centers have created safe havens for over 650 Irvington kids annually for the past 9 years.
