The Love of Christ

from Thought For Today · host Angus Buchan

I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Friday morning, the 1st of May, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in 2 Corinthians 5:14: ”For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died;…”  The love of Christ compels us! The love of Christ is so great, it cannot be contained and that is why when somebody meets Jesus Christ for the first time they can’t help themselves. I think they said about me, for the first six months, “You need to lock him up because he’s like a bull in a china shop”, but the fire, the love, the passion! God is so great, and when you realise what He’s done for you, your sins have been forgiven, you’ve been given a new start, you want to tell everybody. What was the last thing that Jesus said to the disciples before He ascended into heaven? Mark 16:15: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel …”  You see, the love of God is too large for anyone to contain. We just can’t keep it to ourselves, can we? His love has moved us to such extremes. His love has the first word and the last word in everything we do. I got saved on the 18th of February, 1979. I know you know that, but you know that man came and had a cup of tea with Gill and me after the service, and he said, ”Did you mean what you did today? I saw you went forward and committed your life to Christ.” I said, ”Of course I did.” He said, ”Well then, tell the first three people you meet tomorrow morning, Monday morning, what you did.” And I did, and I’ve never stopped since.Jeremiah was another one. He was tired of being mocked by the people. He said to the Lord, ”That’s enough. No more. I’m not speaking anymore.” But if you look at Jeremiah 20:9. He said ”but there’s a fire in my bones which constrains me, I can’t help it. I have to tell people about the love of God.” He just couldn’t keep it in!  It is Christ’s love that fuels our passion. It will lead us to where it led Him.Now remember, the love of Christ for this world led Him to the cross. He was despised, rejected. He was crucified because of His love for people. When you love people so intently, lots of people won’t thank you for that. That doesn’t matter. Don’t judge them, just continue to love them, and I want to tell you something now. Just the love of Christ in your heart, the look of passion in your face, will bring people to Jesus quicker than any sermon from a pulpit.God bless you as you share the love of Christ abroad today. Goodbye.
