The Lovels of Arden Chapter XLV - Temptation

In which Clarissa, trembling and alone in Brussels with her infant son, seeks solace in the solemnity of St. Gudule, while haunted by fears of separation and the ruin of her past choices. Mr. Fairfax finds her and entreats her to abandon her fears and join him in a new life, but despite his impassioned pleas, she clings to her maternal duty and the fragile hope for her child’s future.
