Don't mistake this for lack of focus. I'm sure anyway. Yes. So tonight we are going to do our best to one talk about one of the craziest and mentalist movies that have been that we've ever seen for a while and two, not get one from YouTube because it seems to be our thing at the moment.
We could see things that we think is normal and just imply conversation. And yes, we're getting shopping content warnings and stuff. Yeah, we're not that's not true. You guys won't be in polite.

This movie just kept popping up in conversations like organically and weirdly kind of fit as well. We were like, why don't we just review this movie? It'll be easy because let's be honest, rather than trying to watch as much as 99 is possible to get it all fresh. We've spent all weekend watching binge watching Stranger Things.
So except from Chris, who here's that type of stuff, he just watches there. Shark shark fighting sharks. That's all you did. edition for it.

I think the title of the movie is the best tag line. The man with two brands. Like, what do you expect with that? But you're going to love the tag lines.
Because the first one is so funny. You'll laugh your head off. Oh, God. Hey, still on.
He's a world famous brain surgeon who wants only one thing in a woman, the perfect mind in the perfect body. No world. He did get obsessed with that mid movie. Yep.
Steve Martin is a world famous surgeon. He invented screw top zip lock brain surgery. Trust him. Would you have trusted him?
No, I think is one to watch the film in the other. Well, this one, mate. Danger. Health warning.
Watching this movie may cause a big brain damage. Oh, don't you? That's yeah, that's true. That's the last one.
Now, we've had a lot of discussion before that ever before we went live as well about this movie. We were like, I've doing all about doing Chris, but me and Sami remember watching this when we were very, very young. Which? It's wins a lot, honestly.
It really does. I remember this as a family friendly movie. It's not a family friendly movie. It's anything good.
Even the organ and the organ and things screams like the 80s horror. Yeah. So how did my parents think this was OK? It was very viable by weird science or like something a bit whacky.
It wasn't it was nothing like we had signed that is children friendly. Show it with Kelly as well. So in that in the 80s was it not a time where your parents used to give you the lit secret while there's at your quarter. You asked that question.
Oh, you're sending the shops to buy a pack of five. Oh, my God, you know what? Yeah. Yeah.
I didn't think that like watching the back to here. I was watching like, Oh, I'm gonna watch the comedy watch of it. They've gone get a little bit for your laughs. I was like, Oh, shit, there's cutting to understand.
Wow. Didn't expect that. Then I think it's full of it as well. And then seen like, I've gotten the name now.
I know Chris and Chris didn't impression the chap of the prostitute. Can I say the goods before? And I was like, Oh, yeah, I can't remember this as a kid. Yes.
And it was more the lingering shot on the butt. That it raised my eye. That's a good bit though. Wasn't her butt but it was a good person.
Okay. So yes, this wasn't as friendly for anything. But I have to admit, I've absolutely loved watching this back today. I brought back so many memories.
It had literally every single type of comedy in there. It was like slapstick, dad humor, like physical comedy, as a things that Steve Martin is absolutely brilliant. And I love save Martin in like certain movies he's done like parenthood, the house sitter, anything he's done with all the horners just and me as a butt. He was on fire on this.
And I literally laughed all the way through and it's been a while and after the weekend I've had you needed it. Yeah. Yeah. It's this has been in my my life.
I know it's how long and watching back today was the first time I'd seen it in years now going, how did how was I allowed to watch this? And then there was parts that I kept forgetting about and then like Fran totally forgot about her. Totally forgot about the castle in the hotel. The walls of paper Finn.
So don't get careful. It doesn't look as big on the outside. It's a tardis effect. But this was if I'm right, or wrong, is this the first time you'd seen this joke?
Yeah. So this kind of falls into the category of films my dad would talk about being funny. But like, you know, it was back in the 90s, you couldn't just like get a movie at any point. It's not like now it doesn't magic it onto your TV.
This and the joke I heard a lot about being good. But to be honest with you, I haven't checked out a lot of Steve Martin at all. But he's like, I've always heard like how good he is and stuff like he's like an incredibly physical performer, which I didn't like expect like the way he was like, he was legit carrying like this like actually look like he was so tired, but you could tell I was like, he's actually like the two this. Then my favorite part was that we had a little hobby had to do off the L.A.
car, we would sort of like crouch down and be like, yeah, I had like climb out of the hole like we're on. So yeah, the physical stuff was like amazing. And I just kind of miss these movies where it had like a weird concept and they would just go with it. Well, as long as you commit to it, like, we had stuff like, I'm just off the top of my head like something like Li Li where it's like, Oh, a lawyer who gets cursed to tell the truth all the time.
And they just kind of went with that and that was your entire movie. Like, I didn't really have any more like message to tell you than that. No, I agree with you saying, if out there human, like the concept and like the ideas in this, it's just like, where did the like, I know, obviously, it was a lot of drugs. So it's like, where did the corporate like the ideas or what the things but Stave Martin, as a performer, you get everything is very much like, all or nothing in his performance.
And I remember watching, was it murders in the building in the apartment or part? On the very building. Oh, not in the building. And it was kind of like, I was loving it, but it wasn't getting the full Stave Martin effect until the last episode when he was numbed.
And he's like, wheelbarring off, crawling around like with these these legs and arms, it was like, that's the Stave Martin, I remember, that's the same on that kind of brought back and I kind of breaks her at the same time. And but yeah, you can't, like, you forget, like how much of a powerhouse, like the performances is like Kathleen Turner. Oh my god, I know she's done some amazing things and she's still like, I agree, like she does mostly voice actor now, because she always has that voice and she'll always be remembered as Jessica rabbit type thing. But in this, it's not just she's there because she's beautiful, but she stands taught at all and puts in just as good a performance as Stave Martin.
And they and as you said, with the type of performance or the type of the rules, these movies, it lives and dies on how serious the performers do about taking it as well. Yeah, just go with like the stupid jokes and the ridiculous lines, they have to just say it into each other's spaces and not crack up the same class. So this this has been in Steve Martin's world for a while, he was part of the writing team on it. And so along with Carl Reiner, who is we get because I can say Rob Reiner, fine, which is his son, but when it comes to Carl Reiner, I struggle seeing any surname for some reason.
And but yeah, so when he comes down to pick and talk, Carl wrote it with Steve, this is a collaborative effort that there's many collaborative efforts that did together. And when it came down to director, they wanted to go with somebody else. No, no, this would have went, but they wanted to do on a different corner. They wanted to bring in some of the brains and lovely, he was working on Scanners at the time.
So what did they want to do exactly? Essentially, it is a horror film. It is a horror comedy. The elements are there.
It's just the fact that the comedy overtakes the horror is what you what it is essentially. You said that he has a modern day of telling the Frankenstein in a way. It was only until we were standing in his castle. And he was he was mapping his plan out knowing, Oh my God, it's Frankenstein all over again.
It's manly and God. Yeah. Well, yeah, and he does literally turn into like ego for a second. Oh, my God, David Warner, I absolutely love that man so much.
He is just absolutely brilliant. But in this, especially when he's standing up against Steve Martin, who could have flawed him in every scene, he like stands his own. Yeah, they were really good together. Like when it's like shouting at each other, it was like, it was believable.
I have an argument. But yeah, I did like that running job as well, how he would always like order like a really stupid like, a stroke. It's a straw. You know, he first has the drink and he gives it it.
It's like this really long straw and he's drinking it like nonchalantly. Like this is formal. You know what makes it even funny? You're in 2025.
Like those people now who built that bar in their modern houses and they're like, Oh, this teaky stuff. In the eighties, they're already making jokes. And all Chris, when since we said this movie, I was totally off your street and when I loved as soon as we start messaging today, saying, well, watching it and how exciting about you? Like a little puppy dog.
This was probably your type of movie up to the tee was it? Yeah, I looked at Steve Martin, as you saying, he's got all sorts of different humour, but my favourite ones were stuff like, you know, when them Delores was like, you were those assholes and he's laughing and saying, it's pronounced in zilius. I would say something like that now. Yes, you're either dry sense of humour is your dry sense of humour.
I was just a evil. I like evil. I like to see some people waving from the floor. Yeah, this nice these nice gardeners who owns assholes.
It's been the German subtitles when he gets pulled over as well. And he realised speaking English, and he said, Oh, we don't have to have the subtitles now. I don't have the subtitles now. There was very much other time, like, if you think about the movies, I came out, like the naked gun airplane and stuff.
It was very much like, like, not, well, spoof, but also like fun and games and stuff like, the one that always stuck with us was, was it happens? Well, the shit's really hit the fan. You say a lot of the shit flying the fan. They were more literal on the airplane.
I was like, I was like, I was like, I need some kind of thing. But then when he's in the doctor's office and he's talking about being like, like, pent up aggression, he pulls a handle off and the doctor's sitting down like this all the time. And he's like, and he's walking around like this. And he's like, he's just doing this.
OK, so what time is, you're going to get your fingers removed from your face. He's like, 11 o'clock. And you're like, Oh, shit, he's going to get his fingers through his face. Absolutely.
And again, it's just like the humour that's there. Like, when he sticks the lips on the on the brain job. Oh, my gosh. And just like, how do I look?
Mentions like, were you kissing a brain out on the lake? It's like, what? Did anyone clock the voice of the brain? No.
Yes. It's a specific effect. No, it's an in there. So it's sweet because we know what Sissy says back as Carrie.
And Carrie's voice is quite sweet, wasn't it? But she really does have a country draw right underneath it that is really hidden. But she does when she says mama, you can hear it. But yeah, that was Sissy's basic.
I was surprised as well. I think it was neither. Start because there's a commie or because I look through the, I can say the cast list and everything. And he's not listed in the cast.
The guy from the Reanimator. Jeffy Coons. He's on the Wikipedia one. Right.
But I don't know if that's something that's being added because they now recognise who he is. Yeah. But yeah, it's Jeffy Coons. Because he was the one who loved half.

Sorry. I'm actually going to fact about Sissy's basic on this. So she wanted to try something new. So she accepted an off-screen role.
But to get accredited and paid as an on-screen actor, Carl Reiner insisted she got a brain scan. And it got sculpted. And that's actually a sculpture of her brain in the jaw. Is this one of Chris's facts?

I know there were certain jokes in this that probably were very surprised by words and things used that wouldn't be used in polite society or in context in these days. But you've got to take yourself out. We're like, they all came out of Kathleen's. That was a scary thing.
You did popularize the words. But Sammy did come up with an interesting fact. I didn't know about. I know certain actresses and actors who used body doubles were certain things.
So when we saw her breast, I was like, that kind of be Kathleen Turner's breast because I don't think she's ever sure that much. No. That was in the wrong place. Sammy told us it was in fact her boob.
But she had a body double for another thing. What was that? It was asked for a scene. And you know what she told Colorado?
Right. She told them to get someone else's ass to rub. She's not gonna be mine. Nobody touched the ass.
She's never ever done her own body double. She's always been and done her own body takes. Is that the right word? Yeah.
But this one she's told them to get a stunt double in. I mean, she was inventing only fans when you think about it. You don't want me to have a job. You don't want me to make my own money.
Dolores was such a brilliantly written character though. Yes. She was absolutely fantastic. And the wardrobe choices.
Jesus Christ, they were amazing. Thank you. Yes. And she looked like a Hollywood starlet in the 80s.
The feather bit at the end. The purple feather. I was like, when I saw that, I was like, Oh God, I remembered why I fell in love with that. I thought when I was a kid, it wasn't Jessica.
But it was this. It's like when she's standing in the hotel lobby and she looks like a movie star. Like, they get the really uncomfortable conversation with the hotel clerk and he's like, Oh, I want to go and don't disturb sign. He's like, okay, I need three minutes of kissing.
Four minutes of four minutes of all the laws. That's it. I was like, Oh, no, I want to be knocked to serve for three hours. And the guy just went three hours.
The best thing about that is I didn't go for the low hanging fruit of like, Oh, it was like three minutes. I should be like, I'm lucky son of a bitch. Did anyone pick up the food for Roger Rabbit's reference in this? The ears.

I did. I just lose. And there's not many though. Like for a movie from 83, like Bare to Bank, the same year, and trade place came out.
And there was a lot when we did trade and places, a lot we could talk about. It's not the case in this one. It's like one section, one tiny section, one sentence that we can't see. Yeah.
And I'm guessing that would have been like straight cut out for like, you know, any kind of TV release, like it would always go out. Do you know what? No, Jake. I can always remember being in there.
Right. So your favorite part. What's the most favorite word that he's ever said? That you've got that idea me.

Oh boy. I'm just looking at the movies I came out in 83, comedy movies I came out in 83, and just wondering how this sits among the rest of them. Because you've got trade in places, which I feel like that kind of does, in a way. And for some reason, Superman 3's come up.
I've never seen it, so I don't want to do that side as a comedy. They're extra prize in it. What's this? It's a scary one.
Oh, we didn't watch that one when we did Superman. I only watched the first and second in. Money, power, even. Like, meaning of life.
You can get this. There's a money Python vibe in this movie, especially with certain humor. Like when they go get the background, that is very money, Python. Yeah.
And then you could have your background back and just talk to me. Oh my God. Yes. And then you've got the likes of Cheech and Chong, still smoking.
I was expecting more drug references in this special type of context. But yeah, because if you think about the 80s movie, it was very much the high type of comedy. There was no, like other than the fancy cocktails, there was no drug references in this. It's that straw.
I don't know why that straw just makes it laugh so much. You see, by the guy who now he sets the tray on fire as well. Yes. It takes a step up a step and it's like, oh, it's called the Tichy and Tiddler or something like that.
Like, you wanted to make one live on the podcast once. Yeah. To be fair, I've just got some booze in to make practice cocktails for Christmas. So that's going to be the only thing that gets us removed from YouTube.
It'd be melted the camera. Sorry, it was in the last. Yeah. Go back to the question I asked about.
Like today is like, oh, yes, because I don't think this again, like if someone watched it now, I don't think they would. I wouldn't find it as offensive or outlandish as some movies, but I do think this movie would do well if it was remade. And all see one can't be replaced, but the context for the comedy and the whole horror slash. Like the serial element as well.
I think that would play out quite well in today's audiences. I mean, you could replace the Dolores stuff with like, I mean, they did it in the Adams family film with a similar thing and they did those phrases, what we inserted to reinforce how bad her woman she was. It could still be a cool, big and horrible person without saying them things. So that's all you have to change.
I mean, keeping the boobs itself and be fine. That was the kick of the camera. So today's a big day. It would be a 12 or 15.
Is there a lot of boobs that you get? Because it's three in this. There's a lot of amount. Yeah.

When he's talking to David Warner, he's he drops an f bomb. And I think that's the only time I remember hearing it. Yeah. Like with certain elements.
So I just love how far and how ridiculous and like when he goes back with with the body in the brain to get the machine working and he's like, oh, the machine's dying. And it's like, it's co-inoperated. And it's like, it's like an old arcade machine that they use the goods for. So each element is like different, like videos or things from a arcade to the points when the police get there and it all goes wrong.
It gets Steve Martin bouncing about like a pinball machine. Oh my God. And he also gets turned into pixels. It's impossible to share.
When he comes up, there's seen his hairs all over the place. That was, that was, that shouldn't have worked. But it did. Yeah.
Like those are the kinds of like comedy moments I like as well, where they don't slow it down for the joke because he's like, oh, I've got like six quarters. And that's exactly how much we need. Like, instead of it being like, like a really long drawn out, like, they're just like, keep moving with it. And it's like, yep, this is getting just more ridiculous.
And then when the battering round guys running to do their stunt. Yeah. I wonder how much was in Proffle. I mean, it's, they probably worked some of it out, but it didn't seem improv.
I think that was very much like a Saturday Night Live 90s thing that they used to do. To be honest, there's not a great deal of information about this movie. As in fact, while he was like, there's not a great deal about it. He was just making them back then.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
This is like the thing that Jake loves all because when the movie had film stars, there was no social media. There was no internet where things would get out and things. Even hear about stuff like those and things like these key things behind closed doors. And I know that's like when we've talked to Jake in the past, he's like, wasn't it a better time?
Wasn't it easier when he didn't tell everyone to show up? Yeah. We do everything about them. This time, yeah.
It's more classy. You had to go on a chat show and talk to some late night holes to then ask behind the scenes questions and maybe you'd get a comment. That's where the ask double information comes from. It's on a talk show.
But yeah, no, I do like the vibe of this because you could tell it was just sort of people having fun. Yeah. It's not about. But still somehow got a movie out of it.
It's actually got to be classed as a bit of a spoof movie as well. It hits a lot of different tropes because even the murder mystery thing where it's from the murderer's eyes and everyone's like, Hi, what are you doing here? Well, it's. I thought that was genius to be thought.
Yeah. Me too. The main film that was filmed was Donovan's brain from 1953 and they also parried it and classic B movies, which Chris will love. A beast of blood from 1970.
You're going to have to cut this title. The Saved Hitlers brain from 1968. Right. What's the right to do?
And the brain that wouldn't die from 1962. So they are the movies that they kind of parry and obviously inspired when they were doing this. You know the lady who walks in the lift and you see the killer for the first time. Do we skilled you know who that is?
No. It's called Brian is wife. All right. This is right.
And I'm you know why I knew that but I knew it is it's not Brian is man because that's his third wife. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yes. The three movies that were parodied in this. Can we talk about the elevator scene as well? Because I thought like it was hilarious.
Like the whole concept idea where the hotels are being terrorized by the elevator murderer and how they got passed and said, well, to stop the murders. We just don't go on the elevator. How about having some of the other seven people like guard the elevators? What?
What? That would make more sense than just say, Oh, if you accidentally go on the elevator, you might die. And that was like a how was it totally unrelated? Like, Oh, well, this this method of death kills the brain last, but it had nothing to do with like little brain science.
It was just like a coincidence. Yeah. It's actually really crazy. The fact that this movie got to us in the first place because it really does lie and rely on Steve Martin because we never thought that UK did not get a cinema release for this.
It literally went straight to to video in 1986 straight to video in 1986 and that was the first time we ever heard about it. So for the UK people, it really must have been, you know, the Steve Martin effect is the reason why we know what say this is a stable, like, I think I discussed with the John Candy movies. There was somebody created the credit, it was like the Gorilla creator or something, that was like the official credit. I don't know if it was a man in the suit or animatronics, but that was a good gorilla in this movie. I think it was one of them animatronic faces, you know, like Ninja Turtles, because when he thought he was speaking to her, it definitely looked like animatronic face. It looked exactly the same as the one.
I don't know what Sami's big on this as well. Can we give credit to this movie for the practical effects as well? Because the little things, like the spin on top on the head, that was so well done. Like, I love the sound.

Whatever they did to have that, like I know it was like a stuntman, but whatever dive they did, where I just looked like Steve Martin's body like flying upside down.
