Nelson Mandela born in July 1918 He was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, and political leader, He was arrested in 1962, and subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment for conspiring to overthrow the state - he would spend 27 years in prison before his release in 1990.He would later serve as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.
