The Marble Faun Chapter XXII - The Medici Gardens

In which Donatello, overwhelmed by a heavy and mysterious sorrow, seeks solace in the Medici Gardens where Miriam endeavours to comfort him with her devoted and tender affection. Their solemn parting, shaded by love and despair, leaves Donatello lost in a bewildered gloom as the idyllic spirit once attributed to him fades beneath the burden of his secret grief.
