The Marvels - MOVIE REVIEW (Spoiler-Free)
from MOVIE Morning · host Gyan Chansrichawla
Hey everyone, Marvel Studios' final film of 2023 - The Marvels - has now released in theaters. This was, by no means, my most anticipated comic book movie of the year because I don't think the first Captain Marvel is great and the trailers seemed like Thor: Love and Thunder 2.0. The lack of confidence from Marvel and Disney to screen this film in advance also made me nervous going on. I don't remember the last time I was as unenthused with an MCU movie going in, not helped by numerous articles and scoops about the messiness of the future of it right now. But alas, I have seen the film. Was it good? Find out in this review. The Marvels: Directed by: Nia DaCosta Screenplay by: Nia DaCosta and Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik Produced by: Kevin Feige Executive Producers: Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos and Matthew Jenkins Co-Producer: David J. Grant Music by: Laura Karpman Cinematography by: Sean Bobbitt Edited by: Catrin Hedström, Evan Schiff Casting by: Sarah Finn Production Design by: Cara Brower Cast: Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Seo-Jun Park, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, and Samuel L. Jackson Synopsis: Carol Danvers AKA Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau.
