The Matt Duffin Show - Being Assertive

from Z Z Archive 2016 · host Brain Injury Radio

Post TBI, we search for who we are in a barrel of confusion.  Communication, usually misunderstood, can be a jungle of frustration.  We become overwhelmed, and attack with our voices, or possibly become overwhelmed and simply 'give up' on the daily life of recovery.  Or at least want to.     Most of us use three styles of communication - Aggressive, Passive or Assertive  - depending on the situation, who we are inteacting with, the topic or our mood.  Key word being 'our mood'.  OK, that's two words, but hang with me please.  We can be Aggresive in nature or the moment, or if we don't need our feelings be known, possibly don't feel his 'being' or 'rights' are not as important as others.  That would be a Passive form of communication, albeit little communication at best.   Assertive communication attacks the problem, not the person.  You may be angry or upset, but the anger is up front and appropriate for the problem.  Assertive folks stand up for their rights, but without stepping on the rights of others.   (424) 243-9540 and we will talk about the three types of behavior you may have, how to work with each and to form assertivenss from thoughts of both passive and aggressive thoughts,    It's SUMMER indeed across the country.  That danged global warmking has turn HOT!  Give me a song, let's rock,,,,
