The Matt Duffin Show - Family, Caregivers or Hell

Brain Injury.  The reason.  The 'Call'.  The Wait.  Oh the wait.  Hard to imagine 'the wait' unless you've lived it, traumaticly.  No matter the accident, stoke or immediant brain issue, unless you lived one and survived, well you probably slept while all or most was going on around you.  Inner Trauma, if you will.  So it is very common to believe the brain injury mostly affects only the survivor, seeing how  they seem to be the only one with tubes running in and out.  Following most injuries out societ is used to paying attention to only the patients needs - if the handicap is obvious.  TBI's usually aren't visual to the 'naked' eye.    However, for those that has actually esperienced an ABI/TBI, you may have learned differnetly.  Most learn on their own accords of experience.  Brain Injury affects the whole family, normally.  Yes, some families simply don't care to get involved, and roll away.  Blow them away as fast as you can, you have a life you are relearning.  Let's not learn that family is a bad thing.  "They are what they are."  But tonight, get over  yourself, if you can for a moment.  Lets focus on a better understand what the family, and why it is important to p;aly attention to their needs as well.  They love you, and we are ALL confused.  When Dr. Backhaus taught me this years ago, I started moving forward faster.  My family?  Stuck in the slow lane, per usual.  They don't care about anything but theirself.  I lost my primary Caregiver to death last year, but the beat goes on in my family.  Mercadi Duffin, my youngest daughter, stays with me or stops in often, just "checking on me".  By my side since the beginning.  She's in the Studio now. Talk to her, (424) 243-9540.
