The Matthew Project, Part 7 - Christ's His Followers About the Coming Persecution

The Gospel of Matthew was written by an eye-witness of Jesus the Christ - what He did, what He taught, the miracles He performed, the lives He transformed, and how people responded to Him. It was originally written to Jews who were eagerly looking forward to the arrival of their promised anointed Messiah. After being with Jesus for nearly three years in which the 12 disciples heard what Jesus preached and saw the miracles He performed, Christ commissioned His disciples to go out in pairs and do likewise. But He also warned them that ultimately the day would come when they would be persecuted for no other reason than they were His disciples. Christ's warnings about the inevitability of persecution teaches us several truths: (1) Persecution is spiritually motivated by evil forces. (2) It's not about you, it's about the devilish enemy's hatred of Christ and therefore His servants. (3) Persecution is not logical, fair, or rational. (4) What Christ expects of His disciples when they are being persecuted is courageous faithfulness - which Christ Himself modelled to them.
