In which a mother and her grown daughter revisit the village fair that once held the bustle of their earlier days, now diminished and altered by the passing years and changing times. As they seek news of a distant relation, a chance encounter with an aged purveyor of furmity stirs memories of past transactions and long-forgotten promises, prompting them to set their course towards Casterbridge.
