THE ME/WE INDEX, or the dynamic balance between INDIVIDUAL & the COLLECTIVE in an age of pandemics & runaway climate crisis This dialogue tape discusses a key feature of right relationship in any group of people, of any size, of any nationality: The dynamic relationship between the part in the whole, the individual and the collective; it is a basic complementarity, and therefore essential in describing any living, intelligent form of movement. The balance between ‘the me’ and ‘the collective’ is what we might call a perennial problem. It is there whether we give it attention or not, and has a certain objective, independent quality about it. there is no one solution to the problem. That’s what makes it so interesting. Are use the index to show how we can intuitively understand the profound differences in how, for example, the Chinese and the U.S. are dealing with the existential demands of both runaway climate crisis, and the current coronavirus pandemic. As an alternative to the standard very misleading, I think, metaphors of war, I suggest using the language of sound in flowing movement, and the contemporary performance circle or orchestra.
