The meaning of “giving up” during lent for a non-believer | Ep 48

from Into Your Life Podcast · host Into Your Life Podcast

In religion, the main purpose of “giving up” things in Lent is to bring us closer to God; to prioritise God; to put God in the centre of our minds and lives; to make God the focal point. But we don't need to give up things only for religious reasons! Lent is a wonderful opportunity to try something new, explore our habits and choose to let go of unhelpful habits. Be it giving up sugar, alcohol, meat, or animal products altogether or be it giving up shopping and spending money, complaining and gossiping, or maybe negative self-talk! We can also use this time to experiment with adding something new and building new positive habits. It allows us to take a bit more time after Christmas and the start of the New Year, to intentionally choose what aspects of our lives (or even businesses) we want to challenge and change. 40 days is a great trial period of sorts to see if we would like to make some more permanent changes. 40 days is a good time period to really challenge ourselves and see if our new habits stick!
