The Meaning of Words

from CR101 Radio - Podcast Network · host R.J. Rushdoony

Charles Curtis once observed that modern legal interpretation concerns itself not with the plain meaning of words but only with their boundaries how far they can be stretched and twisted. This dangerous habit has deep roots in the misuse of Scripture: from the scribes of old to today’s revisionists, men have long perverted the clear words of the Bible to justify abortion, homosexuality, or the rejection of capital punishment even absurdly claiming that the tenth commandment forbids coveting only a neighbor’s wife, leaving strangers fair game! When the Word of God, whose every syllable is sacred, is treated so lightly, is it any wonder that human laws and language lose their integrity? If we will not honor the plain meaning of what God says, we will soon have no reliable meaning left in society at all. Jesus declared, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matt. 4:4). To restore truth, meaning, and justice to our world, we must begin by believing and obeying every word God has spoken because the foundations of all communication, law, and life stand or fall on how we treat His Word. Hear the Lord, and let His every word be final! #MeaningOfWords #EveryWordOfGod #ObeyTheScriptures
