The "Meat" Is In The Street: Knowing and Following Jesus into His Mission | Paul Lee | “From Famine to Harvest” John 4.31-38
from City Chapel NYC · host City Chapel NYC
Why do we often have a difficult time sharing the most important thing to us (the Gospel) with people who are important to us? Or people who we know are important to God?Oftentimes believers can have a "famine" mindset when it comes to how we view the world and their receptivity to the Gospel. We fear bringing the Gospel to our neighbors and friends because we think we see opposition and resistance to the Gospel. In John 4, Jesus challenges the disciples and us to move from a famine mindset to a harvest mindset. In John 4:35-38, Jesus reveals that we are to lift up our eyes and see that the fields are white for harvest. There is great opportunity in our communities, in NY, and in the world to bring the Gospel to the nations. Through the Holy Spirit, God has been preparing the hearts of people so they are ripe for harvest. The question is, what is the strategy? And what resources are necessary to enact such a plan? In John 4:27-30, 39-42, we see a town won over for Jesus. And it's not through an expensive media campaign or an amazing strategy. It's done through this one woman. A Samaritan woman. Who by all accounts was ostracized by her community because of her morality, ethnic makeup, and gender. And God chooses to use her to be his first cross-cultural missionary. How did she bring a town to Jesus? Two parts: Shared her testimony and gave an invitation. John 4:29 “Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?” Evangelism is just one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread. D. T. Niles (pastor, evangelist). Two questions to consider for yourself: What is your testimony? And what opportunities is God opening up for you to share your testimony?
