The Meek: The Strength of Gentleness - May 31 2026
from Erindale Bible Chapel · host Erindale Bible Chapel
Strength is often measured by power, influence, or the ability to overcome others. The world admires the loud, the aggressive, and the self-assertive. Yet in the Beatitudes, Jesus turns our understanding upside down. In Matthew 5:5, He declares, “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” At first glance, meekness sounds like weakness, a quiet surrender, passivity, or fear. But biblical meekness is something far different. Meekness is strength under control. It is the willing submission of our lives to the will of God on behalf of others. The meek person trusts God enough to surrender personal revenge, pride, and self-promotion, believing that God Himself will bring justice in His perfect time and will one day grant eternal life in His kingdom.Jesus is the greatest example of this gentle strength. Though He possessed all authority and power, He humbled Himself, served sinners, welcomed the broken, and endured the cross without retaliation. He submitted perfectly to the Father’s will, not because He was weak, but because He was strong in love and obedience. And in the end, Jesus truly inherited the earth through His resurrection and coming kingdom. Through Him, we learn that the strength of gentleness is the pathway to true blessing.Series: The Beatitudes: Kingdom Living in a Fallen WorldScripture: Matthew 5:5Speaker: Pastor David Hallett
