Portland's dark rock trio Hoaxed has released their new album "Death Knocks" through Relapse Records, marking a refined evolution from their previous work, "Two Shadows." The band, now including new bassist/vocalist April Dimmick, has incorporated influences from their tours and Dimmick’s heavy metal background to create a more energetic and textured sound. The album features eight tracks, including notable songs like "Where the Seas Fall Silent," "Kill Switch," and "The Family," characterized by dynamic rhythms and powerful vocal performances. The band's writing and collaboration process thrived during performances over three years, leading to a cohesive and natural progression in their music, enhanced by the addition of cello elements to expand on their previous album. The album's themes revolve around life changes, hinted at by the album title and drummer Kim Coffel's pregnancy. The album "Death Knocks" by Hoaxed explores themes of uncertainty, finality, and the unknown, with songs reflecting on life's final moments and the stories of revered women. Recorded at Falcon Recording Studios with producer Gabe Johnston and mixer Arthur Rizk, the album was completed in just eight days, resulting in a polished sound. The band sees recording as the culmination of their songwriting process, with a focus on storytelling and connection with their audience.
