Midnighters, thank you for another week of showing up. Here is where the hour goes. It opens with something that is five days old. Zafer Atabey's Keep It Going landed on TRAGEDIE on 28 August, built by the Turkish producer who co-runs EXTIMA, and it does exactly what the title promises. Rino Cerrone follows with Afterglow, Italian discipline, no wasted parts. Then Avision with How We Do It, a Suara cut from his Simple Things EP. Anthony Cardinale has been quietly carrying the New York techno flag for years and this one still hits like it was made last month. The middle of the hour is where I had the most fun building. Cirez D's On Off is the one throwback here, Eric Prydz in his techno skin on his own Mouseville imprint, and nothing has aged about it. Marco Bailey follows with Full Steam on COD3 QR, which is the label Laurent Garnier runs with Oliver Way. That makes two Garnier connections in twenty minutes, because Garnier is also the one who pulled the Avision track into his fabric presents compilation. Not planned, but I noticed it while I was mixing and left it in. Then Mescaline. 1200 Micrograms wrote it as psytrance and Victor Ruiz and Alex Stein rebuilt it for VOLTA. It came out on 27 August and it is already sitting near the top of the Beatport peak time chart. Psytrance DNA, techno chassis, and it works on a rooftop at sunset better than it has any right to. From there we stay heavy. Belocca's Human Construct on Mainground Music brings the tension down and the weight up, Nikoretti's Beyond the Edge keeps it moving, and Devid Dega's Want You Back arrives on Second State, which is still one of the most consistent rooms in techno. Sisko Electrofanatik and Alex Micca close that stretch with Anairod on Off Recordings. The last quarter is the payoff. Alan Fitzpatrick's Zero Compliance mix of We Do What We Want on We Are The Brave is his own label and his own statement, and the title does not need my help. Franco Smith's Anthem on Natura Viva is exactly what the name says. And we finish with Marie Vaunt and Space 92, Go Go Go on TAKEOFF, because sometimes the last three minutes just need to run. The Midnight Project lands every week, same time, same place.
