The Mindful Minute - Unclench Your Jaw, A Practice
from The YOGI M.D. Podcast · host Nadine Kelly
I don’t know about you, but I grind my teeth and clench my jaw when I am stressed. They are just habits. Here’s a practice to learn to relax your jaw.Sit comfortably, imaging you are touching the ceiling with the top of your head. Relax your shoulders. Interlace your fingers and clasp your hands behind head (or only one hand if that’s uncomfortable) and press the back of the head into the hands and hand(s) into head. Hold for 5 breaths. Place your hands on your lap.Relax your face - forehead, eyelids, eyes, cheeks, nostrils, lips.Relax your jaw - Separate your upper and lower teeth slightly by touching your tongue to the back of your top two teeth. Now, relax your tongue, letting it settle and widen in the well of the mouth. You can practice this anytime you find yourself clenching during the day.
