The Mindset of Motherhood: Embracing the Seasons & Staying Engaged Spiritually

from Woven in Truth Podcast · host Meegan Zillman

Hey mamas, this one is for you! Meegan Zillman joins the podcast to discuss how to cultivate gratitude in our homes and in our hearts and stay engaged with God and the mission of Christ. How do we accept and adapt spiritually to our season of life as mothers? If we have the correct mindset about motherhood, the benefits of this season are remarkable! As moms, we are managing blessings and in order to manage them well (and maybe not go crazy) we need to change our mindsets. We don’t need to compromise- we don’t need to choose between God’s work and our families, but we do need to change how we think about what that is going to look like for us in this season. God sees you, Mama- you matter and so does your mindset. About the Speaker:Meegan Zillman grew up in a little farm town in Indiana. To her great good fortune, when she was 14 she met Chris, her now husband of 21 years. In 1995 she moved to Massachusetts to attend Smith College and became a disciple of Jesus during her first semester (as did the boyfriend). The Zillmans have spent the past two decades having and enjoying raising their 5 kids, working in churches in New England and the Midwest, and laughing often. Meegan loves reading nerdy fantasy books, quoting Nacho Libre, and finding treasures at thrift stores. The Zillmans currently lead the Denver Church of Christ.Episode Notes: As moms, how do we stay engaged spiritually?Mindset is everything- how are we supposed to think about our role as moms in the context of God’s will for us here on Earth?Kids have always been apart of the kingdom! 2 Timothy 3:15 - Timothy learned the scriptures from infancy! Matthew 19:14- Kids ARE the work of the kingdom, not an obstacle. Children are a vital part of Jesus’s kingdom vision. Matthew 24:19- Jesus sees us as mothers- especially mothers of little people! He acknowledges and validates that this season in life has special challenges. This is a SEASON of life. SEASONS MEAN THAT CHANGES MUST COME. You have a choice- adjust to the season, or fight it and be miserable and uncomfortable. When things feel too hard or too complicated, we might need to check our mindsets. So much of our angst in this season of life comes from comparing our current limitations to our former abilities. Too often young moms pull away from the dreams and goals they had for the kingdom of God- they disengage because they are overwhelmed and pull back completely. So much changes after kids: Energy Level, Focus Level, Emotional Bandwidth, Productivity, Schedule, Opportunities. All of this is changes, so our mindset does as well! We have to start to think differently. Principles (These look different for everyone):Walk with God- find ways to stay connected and inspired.Decide: What is your attitude going to be? If you don’t practice gratitude then this will be a miserable season of life. Don’t complain. Embrace the chaos!Know your priorities. Stay engaged in bringing light to the world.Serve. Keep yourself engaged and refuse to be isolated. Embrace the season of life, enjoy your children, and love God and His Kingdom.Support the showThank you so much for supporting the show.
