Food, marriage and ordinary pleasures can stir guilt or feed obsession. Paul rejects rules forbidding marriage and food because God created His gifts as good. Yet Jesus warns that gaining the world can still cost a person their soul. True thankfulness notices the Father’s hand, receives His gifts in light of His word and with prayer, and lets enjoyment rise beyond the gift to Him.
