The Mitzvos Associated with the Omer and Shavuos (Sefer ha'Mitzvos: Aseh #44,45,46,161)

from Rambam Bekius · host Rabbi Matt Schneeweiss

Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text! This afternoon (4/27/22), in our Rambam Bekius chavurah, we began yet another side-/inyanei d'yoma topic: the mitzvos associated with the Omer and Shavuos. We began by familiarizing ourselves in a cursory manner with the relevant pesukim in Emor, Re'eh, and Pinchas. We then read through the Rambam's formulation of the four most relevant mitzvos in the Sefer ha'Mitzvos, the minyan ha'mitzvos in the Mishneh Torah, and the koseres in Hilchos Temidin u'Mussafin. Along the way we raised a few more questions on the Hilchos Berachos dimension of sefiras ha'omer, namely, why don't we make a she'hecheyanu and why don't we say "lispor" instead of "al sefiras ha'omer"? Tomorrow we plan to begin Hilchos Temidin u'Mussafin Chapter 7, which deals with the harvesting and bringing of the omer. ----------The Torah content from now through Lag ba'Omer has been sponsored by Adam and Estee Goldberg in honor of Savta Shoshana Sham'eh bat Menachem. May her memory be a blessing.----------Bekius Disclaimer:Note that this is a bekius chavurah - as opposed to an iyun shiur. Each session consists of us reading through the Rambam's writings together without much preparation on my part, and without going into depth by consulting commentaries or primary sources. For all these reasons, there are bound to be inaccuracies, errors, and other types of shortcomings which would not be acceptable in a prepared shiur, but are quite typical of a bekius chavurah.
