The Modern Creation Myth: At the start of the 20th century, mathematical physics, inspired by a series of instrumental discoveries in astrophysics, attempted to formulate an answer to the question of how the universe came to be. The resulting creation story, the big bang, was hailed as a triumph of reason and cosmic understanding.
