The Moment the Shark Attacks | Bull Shark Movie Review

from Gore And Grime Podcast Reviews · host Gore And Grime Podcast

low-budget creature feature Bull Shark, it actually hit the festival and digital circuit right at the start of 2022 (though some early promotion and production roots tie it back to late 2021). Directed by Brett Bentman, it’s a classic, indie “shark-in-the-lake” flick that leans heavily on regional Texas charm and familiar tropes. The BreakdownThe Plot: The story follows Spencer Timms (played by Thom Hallum), an alcoholic game warden in a small Texas town whose life is falling apart. When a hungry bull shark is brought up from the coast by a local fisherman and starts snacking on swimmers in the local lake, the corrupt, greedy mayor wants it kept quiet to protect tourist dollars. Spencer has to team up with his ex-wife and a local redneck buddy to track down the beast before the body count climbs. The Vibe: It’s very much a “shark-adjacent” B-movie. Instead of constant, high-octane underwater carnage, a lot of the film plays out like a small-town drama with some quirky characters—including a scene-stealing, perpetually hungry coroner played by Tiffany McDonald. The FX: If you are looking for practical effects mastery, you won’t find it here. The film relies heavily on a lone dorsal fin slicing through murky lake water and features some notoriously fast, rough digital CGI during its explosive climax. It’s pure, independent DTV/streaming schlock—perfect if you’re in the mood to switch off your brain, grab a drink, and enjoy a movie that borrows its DNA directly from Jaws but executes it on a fraction of the budget.
