The Monastery Chapter 14 Part 1
from The Walter Scott Library Hosted by Sir Walter Scott
In which the gentle and reserved Mary Avenel, regarded with a blend of awe and respect by the rural folk, is visited by the flamboyant Sir Piercie Shafton, whose courtly manners and ornate speech captivate her rustic acquaintance Mysie of the Mill. Despite the grandeur of the visitor and the somewhat imperious Christie of the Clinthill's commands, the humble Dame Glendinning endeavours to provide a hearty and sincere hospitality to her distinguished guests, amid the quiet observances and unspoken judgements exchanged among them.
