The Monastery Chapter 37 Part 1

In which the venerable Abbot of St. Mary's, steadfast in Christian resignation, prepares his brethren to meet the approaching English invaders with solemn prayer rather than martial resistance, even as discord and reproach arise between him and a Protestant preacher regarding faith and heresy. The shadow of impending conquest and changed loyalties falls heavily upon the once hallowed sanctuary, as tidings of fallen defenders, apostasy, and controversial alliances cloud the fate of the ancient monastery and its denizens.
