The Monkey’s Bargain

A timeless story for children and for grown-ups who love listening too. From Tamil Nadu comes a folktale that asks a quiet but powerful question about choice, voice, and what it truly means to agree. The Monkey’s Bargain follows a young girl whose simple afternoon takes an unexpected turn, leading her into the forest and into a promise that seems clear at first. As time passes, rules are set, routines take shape, and a bargain made in fear begins to reveal its deeper meaning. Through patience, observation, and courage, the story gently explores the difference between saying yes freely and saying yes because there is no other option. This is a story about listening carefully, recognising when a promise is not fair, and learning that consent and choice must come from a place of safety, not fear. Told through the rhythms of a traditional folktale, it invites reflection without raising its voice. This episode is perfect for shared listening, quiet moments, or thoughtful conversations after the story ends. If you enjoy Indian folktales, stories that center inner strength, or tales that help children understand boundaries and voice, this one is for you. 🌿 Support the podcast and help us share more stories: www.oaktreebooks.in/oaktreestories 🎨 Inspired by the story?
