Burundi has begun seven days of national mourning following the death of its outgoing President, Pierre Nkurunziza who died on Monday from a heart attack , aged 55. Nkurunziza was due to hand over power in August to his handpicked successor, Evariste Ndayishimiye. He was however going to be named as the 'Supreme Guide to Patriotism' with a hefty reward of half a million US dollars and a luxury villa.The former rebel leader, who later became a born again Christian, has been accused of overseeing the torture, rape and murder of his opponents by his security forces. He always denied the allegations of Human Rights abuses.
