John is a retired scientist -- a physicist, to be precise -- and gave us a lesson in how science is being destroyed in the United States. Scientists, he said, are meant to be a wall that blocks the advance of false and pseudo-science. The fundamental definition of science, he said, can be expressed in one word, "skepticism".
