While muscle is the body’s largest site of insulin-stimulated glucose disposal, not all muscle behaves the same. Different fiber types carry different amounts of the molecular machinery needed to respond to insulin, take up glucose, store it, and burn it.He begins by distinguishing the two major muscle fiber types: type 1 slow-twitch and type 2 fast-twitch.
