The Mystery of the Los Feliz Murder Mansion

from Hitched 2 Homicide · host Kris Calvert and Rob Pottorf

High in the hills of Los Angeles sits a Spanish-style mansion at 2475 Glendower Place—a beautiful home with a history so dark that it became known as the Los Feliz Murder Mansion. In the early morning hours of December 6, 1959, physician Dr. Harold Perelson entered the bedroom where his wife, Lillian, was sleeping and bludgeoned her to death with a ball-peen hammer. He then attacked his 18-year-old daughter, Judye, striking her in the head before she managed to escape and run to a neighbor for help. The couple’s younger children awoke during the chaos. One later recalled their father telling them to return to bed because it was “just a nightmare.” Minutes later, Harold Perelson took a fatal overdose of medication. But the tragedy inside the mansion was only the beginning of its legend. The house changed ownership, yet for decades no family permanently settled inside. Stories spread that furniture, Christmas decorations, and possessions had been left behind as though the Perelsons had simply walked away from the home. The abandoned mansion became an object of fascination for neighbors, urban explorers, paranormal enthusiasts, and true crime followers. Over the years, fact and folklore became intertwined. Tales of hauntings, curses, untouched rooms, and sinister events surrounding previous owners transformed 2475 Glendower Place into one of Los Angeles’ most infamous properties—even though later investigations have shown that some of the most repeated stories about the house were exaggerated or simply untrue. What drove a respected doctor to murder his wife and attack his daughter that December morning has never been definitively answered. Financial difficulties have often been cited as one possible factor, but Harold left behind no explanation capable of fully answering the question. This is the historical true crime story of the Los Feliz Murder Mansion—a beautiful Hollywood Hills home, a family shattered in a single horrifying night, and a house whose legend has continued growing for more than sixty years.
